The organization, now known as the San Bernardino Medical Group, INC was the original idea of seven MD's, all of whom had an established practice in San Bernardino. There were two Internists, Dr. R.C. Pollock and Dr. Richard Judd, two General Surgeons Dr. F. Louis Knotts and Dr. James Savage, OB/GYN Dr. Phil Savage, a Pediatrician Dr. Goodman and an Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jole Adams.
The group purchased eleven acres in 1950 and completed construction of a new building to house 12 doctors in November of 1954. In 1963, six acres of the property that had not been developed for the clinic, was sold.
All of the physical assets were originally in the name of the Waterman Building Partnership but later a Corporation known as the Waterman Building Corporation was formed and took title to the land, building and furnishings. This arrangement still stands and the physical properties are leased to the San Bernardino Medical Group.
A new partnership called the San Bernardino Building Company was formed to be the landowners of the now current Valley Convalescent Hospital and approximately two acres of land was deeded from the Corporation to the San Bernardino Building Company. In building a convalescent hospital immediately adjacent to the clinic, it was the desire and hope that San Bernardino Medical Group would enhance the opportunity to provide better medical care to the community at large.
The group's physicians have been, and are still, active in Community affairs. Much of its patient load is referred from the immediate Community as well as the surrounding areas.
